Gendai Nihon Ron Koudoku I (for 2nd grade students)

Title: Basics for Academic Writing
Contents: Academic papers should be readable, and should be based on facts and on logics. In this class students learn rules and tecniques for academic writing through writing term papers. Main topics are

Students also learn how to comment other's writing through a peer review.

Gendai Nihon Ron Ensyuu I (for 3rd grade students)

Date: Wednesday 10:30-12:00
Room: Computer Room on the 7th floor
Title: Basics for Statistical Analysis
Contents: Students learn basic concept and methods of statistical analysis. Using the statistical package SPSS, they learn the following methods: crosstabulation, comparison between means, and statistical estimation of sampling error.

Hikaku Gendai Nihon Ron Koudoku I (for graduate students)

Date: Friday 10:00-11:30
Room: Kansatu Situ
Title: Reading Seminer
Contents: Papers choosed by students are critisized from the four viewpoints: (a) logics, (b) structure, (c) tables and figures, and (d) key concepts. One paper is read around two weeks.

Gendai Nihon Ron Koudoku II (for 3rd grade students)

Room: Kansatu Situ
Title: Reading seminer on contemporary Japanese culture
Contents: Papers on contemporary Japanese culture are critisized from the four viewpoints: (a) logics, (b) structure, (c) tables and figures, and (d) key concepts. One paper is read around two weeks. The goal of this class is to learn (1) how to search and get papers, (2) how to read papers, and (3) visual presentation skills.

Hikaku Gendai Nihon Ron Kenkyuu Ensyuu II (for graduate students)

Title: Basics for Multuvariate Analysis
Contents: Students learn basic concept and methods of multivariate statistical analysis. Using the statistical package SPSS, they learn factor analysis and regression analysis.

Date: Friday 10:30-12:00
Room: Kansatu Situ
Title: Gender Stratification in Contemporary Japan
Contents: (1) Theory of gender stratification, the sexual division of labor, and occupational segregation. (2) Trends in Japanese gender stratification. (3) Problems in current gender-equal policies.
